We love that feeling you get when you just leave the salon with the perfect hair cut and dazzling blonde hair. You know you look great! Plus, you got all of those great comments from your friends and especially cute guys. Of course, nothing lasts forever and eventually your blonde hair starts to turn redish brown again and you are back in the salon for another expensive hair treatment.
Well, we have some great news for you. It doesn’t have to be this way! There are products on the market, specifically shampoos and conditioners that can increase the life of your dyed blonde hair and minimize any rusty or burn hues from accumulating in your hair. These products are typically called purple shampoo and purple conditioners.
The reason these products are purple in color is because the color purple sits on the opposite side of the color wheel from yellow and orange and can mask the formation of these colors. Physics in action! Pretty simple, right?
To use these products, all you have to do is wash your hair with purple shampoo two to three times a week. This will cover up those pesky rusty tones and leave your hair blonder for that much longer.
There are also purple conditioners that can be used in connection with purple shampoos, but it isn’t really necessary to use the conditioners. We suggest trying the purple conditioners out first together with your favorite regular conditioner. If you see great results, there is no need to switch to a purple conditioner. If, however, you don’t see the results you were hoping for, then try a purple conditioner with the purple shampoo to see if your results improve.
For most people, we recommend using a purple shampoo 2-3 times a week and use their regular shampoos on other days. This will keep your hair looking dazzling blonde and won’t dry out your hair follicles too much.
We also strongly recommend using a sulfate free shampoo. The sulfates in shampoo have a tendency to accumulate to the hair follicle making it clump together and appear greasy. Also, when shampoos containing sulfates are disposed of in the environment, they can pose ecological risks.
There are a number of sulfate free purple shampoo products available that you can use to keep your hair looking great and help save the environment. These products are not that expensive and can be bought at most salons, pharmacies, or convenient stores. Just look on the label of the product and most will say if they are sulfate free on the front label. With others you will have to check the list of ingredients to make sure that the product does not contain any sulfates.
There are dozens of purple shampoos and conditioners available on the market today. Most of these products range in price between 5 bucks to about 25 bucks. So there is a product in everyone’s budget.

- Jhirmak Silver Brightening Shampoo
